A Yoga Teacher Training Journey Beyond the Noise

Rishikesh is known as the yoga capital of the world, a place many of us imagine as peaceful, spiritual, and deeply grounding. When I first decided to do my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, I pictured serene mountain air, chanting monks, and quiet riverside meditations.

What I didn’t expect was the contrast.

The reality of Tapovan, the main yoga hub in Rishikesh, was far more intense than I had imagined. Constant traffic noise, honking horns, construction in the background, bursts of firecrackers at night, and music echoing from nearby hotels filled with holidaymakers. It was vibrant, yes, but not the stillness I had come searching for.

I didn’t stay in the chaos for long. It was simply too much.

I am grateful to have found Lotus Yoga Academy, tucked away in the mountains above the noise. From the moment I arrived, everything shifted. I could breathe again. Deep, full breaths that felt impossible in the dusty, fast-paced streets below.

Lotus Yoga Academy truly feels like a hidden gem. The sounds of traffic fade into the distance, replaced by birdsong in the morning. Instead of searching for Wi-Fi or the next café, I found myself sitting quietly, watching the sun rise over the hills, completely present.

The training itself was everything I had hoped for. The teachers were authentic, deeply knowledgeable, and incredibly generous in how they shared their wisdom. We explored asana, philosophy, pranayama (breathwork), anatomy, and the subtle energies that connect it all. Each day was structured with both discipline and heart.

Life at the ashram was simple, but that simplicity became part of the experience. Nourishing meals, tidy comfortable rooms, and constant views of nature created an environment that supported real transformation.

What made the journey even more powerful was the community. People from all over the world came together. Different ages, different backgrounds, different stories, but united by the same intention: to grow, to understand ourselves more deeply, and to leave with more than just a certificate.

We were all searching for something deeper. And in that special shared space, we found it.

The journey wasn’t always easy. There were sore muscles, emotional releases, and moments of discomfort where I wanted to escape back into old habits. But those were the moments that mattered most. That’s where I was able to catch myself, reflect and question, where the real growth happened.

Looking back now, I feel incredibly grateful that I chose to train in the mountains, away from the busyness of central Rishikesh. That space allowed me to fully immerse myself in the practice and the teachings in a way that simply wouldn’t have been possible in the middle of the noise.

If you’re considering doing your Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, my advice is simple: do it, but choose a place that truly supports your transformation.

For me, that place was Lotus Yoga Academy.

And the experience I found there is something I’ll carry with me, always.
